40th Birthday Bucket List

I am turning 40 this year.  After turning 39, I struggled with turning 40, the thought would take my breathe away and I felt sick.  I don't even know why, it's so dumb, I rarely feel like I am 40, sometimes I think I am still only 25.  So it's strange that for at least six months, I was in a state of anxiety every time I thought about turning 40.  It probably had something to do with my depression and as I move out of that state, I am less encumbered by turning 40 and more willing to face it head on with a smile on my face. So I have come up with a list of things I am going to do in the 365 days that I am 40.  Some of them are things I should have done years ago, but I have neglected and some are brand new who would have thought I would want to do this items. 1. Get a Will. 2. Travel to Vancouver (this one I get to check off since I did this as my birthday trip with my mom) 3. Travel to Vegas 4. Travel to Mexico 5. Travel to New York City. 6. Travel to ...

State of the Next Generation.

I fear for the state of the next generation.  I am very worried about whether or not they will be able to function in a society that does not embrace change and has rewarded just showing up their entire lives least their egos be hurt. I didn't raise my oldest son that way and I don't plan to raise my younger sons that way.  Where I have maybe neglected my children is in their ability to navigate through different aspects of grown up life.  Things like bill paying, getting loans, building credit, negotiating deals for items such as cars and houses.  I am seeing now that my oldest doesn't know anything about these things and is learning them by being thrown into the fire at 18. Here's the problem though, he was unable to learn any of these things prior to being 18.  You can't get loans or credit before you are 18 but by then you need it to function in society.  Do you know that to buy a cell phone you need credit?  Do you know that most of society ne...

Then well work was work, it was there we did it, the kids did the work and we made it through! Now I am home, after a lovely visit with my best friend!! I feel like my family and I need a sit down meeting, we just need to all be in the same room and talk for bit about what needs to happen in our home while things are the way they are. Coming back to blogging

Image
So it's been some time since my last blog, no excuse for it really other than I have been working full time, raising the boys, hubby has been working away and my creative writing seems to have hit an immense road block.  A gargantuan writers block had set in, I just couldn't write three words together if I had to try.  Even my emails were painful to write and they were definitely purposeful writings. Since my last blog a lot has changed in my little family life.  Hubby started his own company so he is working away a lot right now.  That means it's just me and my two boys at home.  I've been getting the boys off to school, off to soccer and swimming, and just doing things with them on my own most of the time.  Hubby and I also decided to try for one more baby, and back in September we found out I'm  expecting again.  In case you don't follow me on twitter or Facebook, that means I have 19 days left until my due date.  Yup a lot has changed, in...

Week Six Photo Challenge Fearless

Image
Ok I am behind in my blogging a bit, so I need to catch you up.  We are actually into week eight as I post this blog.  But week six was Fearless.  Come up with good photos to encapsulate a theme can be difficult, and sometimes you do need a preamble to why the photo represents the theme.  So I will tell you a story. Many years ago, I became afraid to leave my, then, boyfriend.  We weren't good for each other, we were constantly fighting and I was miserable.  But he offered me a sense of security that I wasn't ready to let go.  I was competent, I was putting myself through school, I was putting food on the table, I was taking care of my little guy and I was doing it all without his help.  But I had painted him in my mind as vindictive, I  firmly believed that if we broke up he would take all the furniture from my house that was his, the kitchen table, the television, the couch and I would be left with very little and that because I would hav...

Dear Children

Education is a gift, but not one that is given freely.  Your parents and neighbours and mailman help pay for your education.  They are contributing tax dollars towards the education system in hopes that you will come out with an education that will help you develop the next big thing, the next thing that so changes our world that everyone wants it, making your life that much easier.  Adults provide the tax dollars so your teachers can be in a classroom, offering you insight into the curriculum that is supposed to help you on your education journey, but you have to want to learn.  So if you want to learn, you have to tell people what you are interested in.  So many studetns are so focused on their grades, their percent that is a number given based on what?  How well you know something?  Either you know it, you sort of know it, or you don't, so then shouldn't you be given a 0 or a 1 or a 2.  Does it really matter that % mark that you are given? ...

When I say Whirlwind that's exactly what I mean

OMG I am finally getting my life back into a schedule, and I am finally able to schedule in blogging time!!! So Sorry blogging buddies that I have been neglectful of you, I have been reading when I can but I am not even kidding you that my life has been, not in the eye of a whirlwind but right in the midst of if for the last four months. It all started back in December getting ready for Christmas.  Christmas is a busy time of the year as it is, and well work and everything else just started picking up and it was like I was on a runaway train.  I had been working three jobs, substitute teaching, working in the group home and working my own home based business, Fifth Avenue Collection.  Plus I had been trying to put in time to writing and spending time with my family and giving myself time but there wasn't much left to give me.  After our quick trip back to Saskatchewan for Christmas I went straight to work for 8 days in  a row.  And not just 4 or 5 hour shi...

Thinking Blog......

I envy people that know what their passion is, I think they are the luckiest people on the planet.  I envy people more who know what their passions are and are able to make money doing what they love.  I don't know that I am one of those people.  I am not sure why, but I guess that's the way things go from time to time.  I am trying to figure out what my passions are, I am in my 30s, you would think I would know what they are, but I struggle with that.  I grew up in an atmosphere where time is money and money is time, so don't waste either.  I don't know why I keep that cliche in my head because all it does is bring me down, but I keep it in my head because I need to make money, and if I don't make money my family will struggle.  I can't do something I love if it is going to cause my family to struggle financially or so that we can not enjoy a lifestyle to which we have worked hard to earn. I went to school for 4 years because I LOVE helping people...

Words to Live By

Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play it is free will. Jawaharal Nehru There are many different views on what our life is about.  Is our life predestined or do we get to forged that path as we make decisions in life?   I have long believed that my life is mine to make.  But like roads, each decision I make will take me down a path with a choice that has been determined before I even make the choice to go down that way.  Much like roads and streets, that lead you to specific intersections, I believe the choices I make are my free will.  I believe that free will exists, that I get to choose my paths in life.   I think many times in my life I am able to see that I am going down a specific path, a path I could not avoid, but how I travel down that path is up to me.  I am able to choose my outlook on the paths, I am able to choose how fast I get down this path, I have many options and tha...

Time is flying

Almost a year ago I was sitting in front of my computer contemplating what I was going to do with myself.  I had recently been engaged and knew I had a wedding to plan, but that was 23 months away.  I was 9 months pregnant and was going to have a little one to take care of but seriously what was I supposed to do to keep myself from going crazy. I love to write so I thought I would start a blog.  Now with over 100 posts and a long break between my last posts I am sitting in front of a computer wondering where the hell all the time has gone.  I know friends have told me that the time would fly, yes Roxi you were right, and sometimes it did seem to fly but at other times t dragged on.  My expected baby is going to be one year old in less than a month.  My impending nuptials will take place in less than a year.   I have started teaching again, leaving the social services field behind me.  I am enjoying my new job, and my new wage is much better ...
