Tuesday Tribute: Jeff Mullan

Image
I want to tell the world about an amazing man! A man who changed lives and lived a life full of love and excitement.  He was truly a genuine person and it is a shame not everyone got to meet him.  But he lived a life that really encompassed the song Humble and Kind.  He didn't do anything for glory or recognition, he did it because it was the right thing to do and he spread happiness like a flame. Jeff Mullan was an east coaster through and through, he could spot another Bluenoser anywhere he went.  It's like the Saskatchewan phenomena of always knowing another Flatlander when you go out but Jeff's ability to pick out Bluenosers was almost like a sixth sense.  And East coast people have a special affinity for making people feel at ease in their presence, Jeff was no exception. I could go through a litany of all the great things in Jeff's life, but I honestly only knew him for the short time he was in my soul sisters life.  I sometimes think Estelle dr...

Holidays in Saskatchewan

Image
Well like every year since I've moved to Red Deer, we went back to Saskatchewan for part of the Christmas Holidays!! This year Chandler brought his friend with him and we were spending the New Years with my friend Estelle and her family again.  The drive to Saskatchewan was relatively uneventful, a forgotten phone was the most exciting thing to occur, which caused us to add an hour to our drive, (yes it was me that forgot my phone) but the roads were good, the weather was good and the kids were good!! The first part of my holidays I spent with my mom and my sister!! We had our Christmas on Boxing Day, Grandma made Hawaiian Meatballs (my fav) and we had presents!  It was fun, then the baby and I went to my sisters house and Lil Man had a sleep over with Grandma!! I also got my hair done while I was there. I was contemplating going short, like chin length short or shorter, but I wasn't quite ready for that instead I went darker!! I went caramel colour with peek a boo b...

Thanksgiving in Saskatoon

Image
I've always been a family person! To be able to spend time with my family just hanging out or playing games is one of my most favourite things to do in the whole world. So on holidays or when we go back to Saskatchewan that's one of the only things I want to do.  I also know that it makes my grandma happy to play games with us and as she's getting older I like to do things that will make her happy.  Plus I really enjoy that time with my family. I admit to being selfish, especially when it comes to spending time with my family when we go back to Saskatchewan. And I know that I have a lot of fun playing games with my grandma and mom but it's not really for everyone, and my husband didn't always enjoy it.  Where I could sit and play games for 3-4 hours in a row,  Hubby may have joined for a couple games but it wasn't really his thing and just sitting around would get bored. Hubby is a doer.  He likes to be doing things or going places so to just sit around and ...

Day Trip to Gull Lake

Image
Growing up in Northern Saskatchewan a girl can become pretty spoiled when it comes to lakes.  There are so many good clean lakes within an easy 45 minute drive that you just think that everyone must have this luxury.  And it is a luxury, let me tell you, because not everywhere has this benefit and if there is one thing I miss more than anything, it's living in such close proximity to so many great lakes.   (Saskatchewan you have amazing lakes) Now that I live in Central Alberta, I've had to make some adjustments to my lake habits.  I was a girl who would go to the lake any chance I got and I would be in the lake swimming for hours and hours, now not so much.  Mostly because I don't find the lakes here that appealing to me.  Again I blame Saskatchewan for spoiling me, but the closest lakes to my current living space aren't as good as back home, they are good, just not as good.  I think Sylvan Lake is pretty, it's a cute lake town but it's always s...

June and a trip to Saskatchewan

Image
It's been a busy month of June.  Busy getting over the baby blues (hormones), end of school, preparing for summer, and just getting into a new routine that works for the boys and me.  I hate saying I am busy, I've actually stopped using that word when people ask me how I've been or however they phrase the question. I legitimately tell them what I am doing or have been up to, because just saying "I've been busy" is a cop out that's like saying you don't have time to give to someone that is expressing an interest in your life and that's not fair.  (this is totally only relevant for me and I do not judge people who still answer "oh I'm so busy" when I ask how they are doing, I realize they have not come to same understanding as I have)  All of this is not to say that we haven't been doing things everyday or most days because we have it's just that I don't want to have my life defined as busy.  But I'm off on a tangent now...
