Books of the Summer

Image
Did you know I love to read books? I I am a life long reader! Reading is one of my passions, and sometimes I think I should have, and would have gone into publishing if there had been any publishing houses around me! But I didn't and I am teaching which I think is a better fit for me anyways but I am a reader and I will always be a reader! I LOVE books! I am especially fond of YA books.  So every summer I take a tonne of books from the school library and I go home and read and read and read.  In the picture below you see 13 of the 14 books I chose to read this summer.  I ended up reading 16 books and listening to 3 audio books. To say this was a summer full of reading might be an understatement!  I think I loved all the books I read this summer, definitely there were some I loved more than others, but I loved them all. I am super glad I found read Philippa Gregory because the book was great and it also gave me the opportunity to have a new ...

Friday Five: Five things I am going to do this summer

Image
Welcome to another edition of Friday Five! This Friday Five is dedicated to making five goals for myself this summer! Five things I want to do and how I am going to incorporate them into my summer. 1. Reading, reading and reading. I put myself on a reading hiatus for June.  I did this because I was reading a lot and I didn't want to clean out my school library before the summer hit!  I also used July to focus more on my novel writing so there was that too.  For the Summer I am going to read 14 books, I have already started book number 5 so I think I am on pace to reach this goal! 2. Writing, writing and writing. I love writing, but I find I always make excuse why I can't write, or find other things to distract me with so that I don't actually write.  But I am putting aside an hour a day to do some writing.  This is turning into an hour in the morning before my kids are allowed to get up for he day.  Teddy doesn't listen to this but he is usually...

Friday Five: Five books I've loved this summer!!

Image
I've loved a lot of books this summer.  More than working out, more than watching television I have loved all the reading I have been able to do!! And so many good books.  I may not have taken all the vacations I wished I could have this year, but I got to travel to so many unique worlds and meet so many characters through the books that I don't feel like I missed anything.  So here are my top 5 books from this summer!! 1) Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl I  tried reading this book back in the winter and just could not get into it then. I really tried but I just was not in the mood.  So I shelved it promising to come back to it at a later date to give it one more go.  I am so glad I did but so sad I didn't take the rest of the series out at the same time because now I have to wait until school starts before I can read them.  If you aren't into fantasy this book will not be for you, but if you like those alternate universe with f...

Day in the Life Friday Five

Today is another Friday Five Link Up with the wonderful ladies Mar, Cynthia and Courtney !! Check out their blogs for some great reads!! So happy I found this link up!! It's hard for me to chronicle my days, because at this moment in time they are never exactly the same. Some I send the kids to school and relish in the silence, some Lil man is home and we are constantly on the go doing one activity or another.  Some days are weekends, everyone is home and we've got playdates and sports and activities planned. That being said, there are things I do every day, regardless of what's actually going on, they are routine and they are my favourite parts of everyday. 1) Waking up and checking my phone.  I check my phone for weather, for texts, for emails and sometimes twitter and Instagram.  I love rolling over and checking my phone before I roll out of bed, it's a way to make human connection.  It's dumb, but it's not, I also check my calendar to make sure I...

Disaster has STRUCK!!! HELP ME!!

OMG it is a disaster!!! A horribly, terrible, irreparable travesty!!!  I have lost something incredibly dear to my heart!!!  My desire to write has left me!  It's lost, gone, disappeared from existence.  I am now tail spinning into a dark funk, one of which I am scared I will be sucked into never to return again. Yesterday, last weekend and many days last week, over the last three weeks really, I opened Internet Explorer and loaded my Blogger Dashboard and quickly returned to Facebook, or Twitter or Pinterest, you know whichever website was also open on my desktop.  I had nothing to write, I wanted to write, but deep inside me buried under all kinds of other feelings was a desire to write, but my mind and my hands would not cooperate.  I would have loved to have written anything, about an outing to a park with my son, my reviews of some of the shows I watched, my ideas of survivor, even a fictional piece would have been ok, but I could not get any words o...

Job Hunting

I hate job hunting, I actually hate all parts about it, but it's a neccessity in this day and age.  I am again finding myself to be on the job hunt for another teaching position for the fall.  Every year this seems to be my lot in life, and though I love teaching this job hunting SUCKS. Sometimes I sit at my computer and wonder why I can't be a travel writer.  Why not?  It seems like it would be a good job, it would definitely have a lot of perks and I could technically speaking take my family with me on some of my excursions.  But how do people get into that line of work?  I have no idea but if anyone knows then you can send me in that direction.  I would even work for Travel Alberta or Travel Saskatchewan and write reviews for their events. I think sometimes being able to go places and show how they are or are not good for a family is what people want to see or read about when they are about to venture out of their safe bubble zone of their home. ...
