Easy Crockpot Soup

If I have to cook, which since I have kids is something I find I have to do from time to time, I LOVE using my crock pot.  Whomever invented the crockpot is my hero, it seriously makes my job so easy.

With the cold weather setting in, I'm craving soups.  I love making soups and eating soups and now freezing soups.  I really wouldn't mind being on a soup diet, except every once in awhile I like somthing crunchy and salty.  I think aside from that being on a liquid diet would be good for me except I might eat more than I should and gain weight since it doesn't take much energry for your body to break down liquids.

The easiest soup recipe I know is Hamburger Soup.  This is quite honestly like the story of Stone Soup.  You know the fable of Stone Soup, where the family had nothing to eat so they boiled a pot of water with a stone in it. Whenever their neighbours came by to see what they were doing, they said they were making stone soup, so the neighbours wanted some and to get some they offered to add various vegetables to the soup.  By the end of the story the whole village has contributed and everyone gets to share in the soup.  That's what hamburger soup reminds me of.

Why you might be asking?  Well it's simple hamburger soup is made with chicken broth/ beef broth, ground hamburger, and whatever vegetables you have on hand and whatever spices you wish to add in as well.  I usually look into my fridge and find all the veggies that are looking a little wilted, the ones that you know you won't use before they go bad and throw them into the pot. You can cook on the stove and let simmer for an hour to an hour and a half or a better idea is to just throw this into the crock pot on low for the day and come home to enjoy great soup!!!

I love to make it, forget it recipes!!!

Hope you enjoy trying this one as well!!!

  1. That is still one of my favourite stories! Gotta love teaching them to share, even if a little trickery is needed. Do you fry your hamburger first or just throw it in with everything and let it cook from low too? Great idea, I really want to get into using my crock-pot more.Thanks.
