F*#$ing Perfect by Pink

I was out for a walk the other day, listening to my playlist when Pink's F*#$ing Perfect started playing on my headset.  I don't know why but I feel like this is the first time I have ever truly listened to this song.  I am a HUGE Pink fan, I think she is amazing and such a wonderful role model for young women, and I when I really listened to this song, this opinion was reinforced even more. Has that ever happened for you?  You have a song that you listen to a lot and then one day you really hear the song, and the message in the song really resonates with your core beliefs?  It was such an ah-ha moment on that path as I was walking and I was like wow. Be-YOU-tiful: Beauty blog, BeYOU(TY)

The word beauty is interesting because it contains some very important information right in the word.  YOU.  You can't say the word beauty without saying the word you in fact beauty is a direction as well. It tells you to Be-you-ty.  I am an english teacher and I know that beauty is an adjective, a word to describe a noun, but what it we started to take beauty as a sentence, that would be a direction from the world.  BE YOU TY(thank you) Beauty or being beautiful is more about being your authentic self.  Be True to you, stop trying to be what you think others want you to be.  It's such a hard lesson to learn at a young age, but if you can take these words and accept them to be true, it will change your life! Stop trying to be like the popular girl in school, stop trying to be like your best friend, stop saying you like everything your boyfriend likes so you can be 'closer', instead look inside yourself and discover who you are.  The funny thing is th...

Be-YOU-tiful: Defining Beauty

What it beauty? What makes a person beautiful? Who decides what the benchmark for beauty is? These are all questions society struggles with on an universal level.  But every culture, every society, every group has it's own definition which makes defining beauty one of the hardest tasks I've ever encountered.  Beauty is very subjective and we each have our own parameters for what makes someone beautiful, the funny thing is it's not often centred around physical beauty. I've struggled with this term for most of my life.  I've never had self esteem issues that I wasn't physically attractive, but I've had self confidence issues that maybe I wasn't my best self and that others were better than me.  My friends were skinnier, better at fashion, funnier, had better hair and so on and so on.  And my battles have changed from year to year but they've helped me define Beauty for me.
