My new Deck

Image
Since we've moved into our home nine years ago we've known that we needed to replace the deck and fence eventually, but it's a big cost and babies, weddings and travelling always seemed to take precedent, until this year, this year was the year of the Deck! Last year due to a ferocious wind storm we were able to use our house insurance to replace our deck and sheds that were damaged in the storm, but the deck still stood (I have no idea how!!) so we had to wait until we could replace the deck. The beginning of the deck tear down I really, REALLY wanted to go to California with my boys this summer but being a home owner means we have responsibilities that we must take care of and our deck was not going to last another winter without injuring someone.  So we cut our vacation to the states short, we still had a good time and then we came back home and tore out our old deck.  We took the old addition to the deck off and reframed and new section. That was the e...

Renovating our living room

Image
I feel like I am always renovating something in this house.  This is probably a truer statement than I want to admit since EVERY ROOM in this house has been done at least once if not twice, except the master bedroom and ensuite. When we moved into this house eight years ago the living room was a ghastly sunflower yellow.  Now sunflower yellow is not actually a terrible colour, but when it is on every wall it's overbearing. Seriously it was so much yellow, it just had to go, so we may have gone complete opposite and went for a beige brown combination.  It worked for eight years, but after awhile the darker brown just started to resemble shit brown and one grows tired of having shit on their walls.  Something had to be done!!! I'm sure I get a look in my eye and then my husband wants to run for the hills! Like I am about 60% positive this happens because I like to change rooms, either the lay out, the colour, the furniture, but every six months or so I a...

Renos: How I loath thee and love thee

Image
We are currently renovating our main bathroom, the only bathroom in the house with a bathtub.  My life is in disarray and has been for the entire month of November. For starters I am excited about the end results of the new bathroom but in the mean time things have gone to pot.  I am a bath person, I would rather have a bath than a shower any day of the week. I love to relax in my tub and read a good book, and that has been denied to me for a month now.  I have gone to my in- laws house twice but that still isn't the same, it's a little awkward sitting in their tub relaxing when they are playing in the living room with lil man.  So at first we thought the project would take three weeks, but it's week 5 now and the end is only beginning to come into sight.  There have been a few hiccups along the way.  We have been found some contradictory information, and have had to work through that, neither of us feel much like working after work so we have only been...

August comes and so does the hot weather

Since we got home the weather has been gorgeous (knock on wood).  I am hoping this trend will last for the rest of the month.  I am LOVING the weather.  I am vacationed out though.  We spent the long weekend in Saskatchewan at Turtle Lake.  It was a good time.  Hung out with Estelle and her family!  Little Man did alright for his first camping trip ever.  We didn't stay in a tent, we got to stay in a little camper that was at the cabin. I caught three fish, and Ade caught three fish. These were expensive fish, they cost about $10 a piece after paying for our fishing license.  LOL So now I am home for the summer. I was supposed to have one more weekend away, but I can't find a sitter to watch Little Man, and I am flat broke.  Silly vacations cost too much money.  But being home has it's advantages too. We have so many projects that need to be completed around the house.  We have painting to do and some landscapin...

May Memories

Image
May has been a surprisingly big month in our household.  We have seen Little Man reach many milestones and it almost seems like you can see him growing daily.  We have also made progress with landscaping the backyard and have begun work on the bedroom hallway.  I didn't expect May to be this busy but there you go, you always get what you least expect. For Little Man's achievements and first have been plentiful this month.  He has learned how to crawl and how to make it up one stair.  He will now stand with help and can pull himself up into a standing position.  He has also cut his first tooth at 6 months 3 weeks of age.  I see the second tooth coming but it hasn't broken through yet.  The weather was so nice I was able to take Little Man to the park where he rode a swing for the first time.  He also had his first grown up food meal, cauliflower, meatloaf and toast.  He also got his first bee sting, thankfully there was no allergic reac...

Renovations

So this year I was able to purchase my first house. It is a four level split with a huge yard. Well I think the yard is huge. It's on a corner lot and faces to the north. The only real downfall of the house is that it faces a trailer park. But the trailer park isn't that bad at least what I can see of it look esthetically nice. It's a little sketchy in who lives in that trailer park and the problems the city has with some of those residence but other residence in the same trailer park are working to make it a safer place to live. So really it is six of one and half a dozen of the other. The house was built in 1980, next year it will be thirty years old. So needless to say, but I am going to say it anyways, it has some projects that need to be completed to make it a real home. I am not sure what the guy who owned the place before we bought it was thinking but he was insane. He painted a huge room sunflower yellow and a hallway. It's not a horrible colour but in...
