Do you know a Narcissist?

Image
I was never sure if I'd ever met a true Narcissist.  I mean they are so hard to pick out, sort of like high functioning sociopaths.  And there are times in my life I could have been called narcissistic where I was really only concerned with my own feelings, my own self, my own well being.  But at the end of the day I didn't only care about those things at the expense of others, I didn't step on others to get where I needed to go, but I didn't let others dictate what I wanted to do. The scary thing is that Narcissists don't see their tendencies in their behaviour. It makes them very dangerous.  Most of the time they will manipulate the truth so that it suits their needs. Do they need some one to be the bully in the story?  Do they need sympathy for a fall out of events that occurred?   Do they need someone to be the scapegoat for what they forgot to do?  Are they not the most popular person in the room and have a desire to be? I've known ...

Last Week of the Social Media Hiatus

I did it, I made it through February without checking Facebook! I am so proud of myself, because prior to this I would check Facebook every waking hour, sometimes twice an hour.  It was monopolizing a great portion of my day but wasn't getting me any further in any of my personal goals, therefore, it was a waste of time. What I've learned from this break: 1) There are lot's of great things that I miss about Facebook, seeing everyone's pictures, being able to ask for advice and getting multiple view points, being able to make last minute plans, responding to statuses and seeing other responses. There are lot's of times when you see people rally behind one another and offer such unwavering support that you know society isn't completely lost. 2) That I need to unfollow a lot of people.  There are a lot of people who appear on my timeline that I have no desire to follow or hear what they have to say. It could be they are making a lot of political posts (wh...

Week three Social Media Hiatus break

Ok this week was so HARD!! I had  few doctor's appointments and a few long waits in waiting rooms.  Let me tell you, when you need a time killer is there.  I really wished I'd had the Facebook app on my phone at that point because well it's a good time waster when you are forced to wait. But I did make it through the week, and I didn't cave.  Well not until Family Day, then I decided I could go on check my notifications and put forth any responses that needed to be addressed.  I'm also waiting for something to come in on one of the groups I follow so I needed to see if it was in.  But now that I've checked the notifications and stuff, I'm not sad to not be going on it each day.  Once a Day checking Facebook is more then enough time to check Facebook, unless I'm in the midst of selling or buying things. I'd spend less time on Facebook if I'd block out time (30 mins) each day to check what was going on. It would also make my life much more prod...

Social Media Break Week 2

Image
When I started this Social Media (Facebook) Hiatus I thought it would be the most difficult thing imaginable.  And the first few days were brutal, I kept wanting to sign in and see who was engaging with my posts, to see what my friends were posting and engage with those posts.  Then I started doing other things to get my mind of Facebook..... I sent out a couple tweets, so I've not been great at cutting myself off Twitter, but honestly it's about 3 tweets a day maybe five minutes total so it's not too bad.  I've definitely kept up with my Instagram and have sent out many, many pictures keeping people updated with what was going on, but I didn't check my notifications for Facebook. I've started doing other things as well, like an hour phone call with my friend Angela.  I've texted people I've never really texted before, I've written letters to many people and have even got them addressed in envelopes ready to be mailed.  Seriously, I love writing ...

Taking a Break from Social Media Week One

Lent is a time of the year when Christian's give up something as a form of reflection to mimic Jesus' choice to give up all he gave up for us.  And blahdeeblah.... anyways I don't usually give things up, I like to hoard my obsessions and addictions but I found like I'd stated in my previous post that Social Media was not improving me but in fact it was impeding me from becoming a better person. I've now taken to writing letters to friends, some of you will get them, some of you may already have gotten them.   I'm spending time with my kids, I'm planning my blogs more efficiently, I'm spending time writing my novel and working on that aspect of my writing.  I'm also focusing on what I've got to do when I get back to work, what I want that to actually look like. Not constantly checking in with Social Media has freed up more time in my day to spend with the boys playing. We stay focused on what we are doing and notifications of a like or new pos...

Social Media Hiatius

I said in December that I was going to take a break from Social media and only check my Facebook on the computer.  Well if that were a school class, I'd have received a failing grade, yup failing, it's just so damn addicting!! So February I'm going to take a hiatus from Social media in my personal life.  I'm still going to post for my blogs and for my Fifth Avenue Collection business, but for my personal life, I'm going to take a break. I love Facebook for the connections it has allowed me to keep and the friendships I have made, but sometimes, sometimes I find myself going to a really negative place.  I get really irritated with some of the posts I see on my news feed and to block or unfriend those people that make those posts would cause drama and I'm not about drama.  But I also get irritated with the people that use Facebook to spread propaganda they know very little about!  But then they would totally die defending these views and if you comment they te...

It should be yoga, but it's not going to be

So I had originally planned to do a post on my yoga sessions with Nicole Schulz, and I will but something else came up that I feel the need to articulate about. So here goes. Social media, as great as it is, in keeping us all connected it is an evil, an evil that drives me crazy.  An evil that probably drives teenagers crazy because they feel so much pressure to be perfect and to always be virtually engaging with their friends. Yet Social media is supposed to be a network or your friends and your friends should support you, yet, negative comments, judgemental comments always seem to creep in. I don't share a lot on Facebook, and yet I do.  But most of what I share is pretty neutral, it's not thought provoking, it's not anything to start a conversation, it's things like going to stars and strollers, or thanks to a friend for having a great visit.  I get lot's of likes and that's very uplifting, that people care enough about me and my life to spend even 5 seco...

Facebook Messenger App

There are a lot of reports that are causing fear mongering around the Facebook Messenger App.  They are supposed to be able to access your personal data, your pictures, your camera, your microphone and this could all be without your knowledge.  Or that's what they say.  I am personally against getting the Facebook Messenger App but it's not for the reason that many are thinking. I don't agree with allowing and application to have carte blanche rights to my phone, it's no one's business what's on my phone except for me. Here someone broke down what they are asking your permission for on Facebook Messenger to download the app.  It's sort of the reason why I didn't get a company phone last time my phone came up for renewal.  I just don't need someone to tell me what apps I can have on my phone and what I can do with my phone on my down time, and I'm not about to have two phones because I need a phone for work, that's ridiculous. However, I di...

You direct the Blog this week

Here's my new idea, and I think it's an interesting idea, I would like to have my blog be a bit more interactive so I would like to open myself up to answer questions from my readers. YOU! What would you like me to write about? What would you like to know about, about me, my thoughts on a subject, whatever... you get to direct the blog. So this is how it will work.  Once you finish reading this blog leave a comment at the bottom of the blog.  I'm not sure if you have to have a google account or not, but if you do send me a message by twitter or Facebook to let me know and I'll figure something else out.  The reason I want the comments is so that other readers can see that I am not just blogging but actually following through so the next time I do this maybe they will want to participate as well.  Then once you have commented I ask that you please share this blog, on Facebook or Twitter.  That's all, pretty simple!! Here's the other little detail, my blog is ...

Be your own Beautiful: change your thoughts

Image
The title of this blog is from a  group I follow on Facebook and twitter called Goodbye my Muffintop.  I stumbled across this group first on Twitter when they did some yoga in the park sessions by my work.  I was a little sad because I had to work and couldn't join them but it truly looked like a fun time.  I started following them on Twitter and Facebook to see what other events they had going on.  I have found that it is always good to have support systems when you are making any changes in life or just even when you are living life, without support systems life can get a little lonely. One of the things I took away from my few meetings with the girls from Goodbye my muffin top was how important it is to love yourself just as you are.  It doesn't matter that you may want to lose weight, drop a dress size, have stretch marks or any other type of imperfection, it just matters that you love yourself as you are in that moment.  You can still do what ...

Week 20 Bright

Image
So since taking a picture of the sun would have been cliche, I decided to find the next best thing.  A light bulb, no joking, but I did find some great plants that had some great sunlight shining on them, so those were my submissions for Week 20!! Also Lil Man playing at Sylvan Lake and the treacherous stairs that inflamed my sciatic nerve.

Be Real, Never Disingenuous

"Never apologize for what u feel that is like saying sorry for being real.... I don't regret my past just made me who I am and I'm not a bitch I just have no tolerance for bullshit" This was a status from a friend's Facebook page.  I am not sure it it's a quote from another source but for now we will honor S. Ford with it, if I am mistaken, then Google has failed me, because I did search. I try, and sometimes without success, to express myself without putting blame on someone else.  I am a big girl, I can speak up or walk away from any situation I am not enjoying, but if I choose not to walk away, then that's on me not the person that has brought me to this situation.  I get how people can read things and think it's about them, people are very narcissistic and want to believe that everyone thinks of them as much as they do, but if people are mostly thinking about themselves, then how can the be thinking about others?  It's just human nature thou...

To Tweet or not to Tweet

So I have been contemplating joining Twitter recently.  I am not sure if I really need another social networking site to become involved in, but I sometimes think it may be a useful tool in life.  I mean if you use it for a specific reason in your life then maybe it won't become all consuming. I had taken against Twitter when it first came out because Facebook was so all consuming that I just couldn't possibly spend more time on the internet updating another social networking site.  Since I have become involved with Facebook, my other social networking websites have been neglected.  I haven't deleted them, but I should since I never access them.  I love Facebook, I am definitely a fan of Facebook, but it is very time consuming, so do I need another site to consume more of my time. I have some questions about Twitter that I feel I have to have answered before I can sign up with them if I do sign up with them and I felt this might be a site to ask those ques...

Status Changes

I often wonder how many of us really talk to all our friends that we have on Facebook.  Or why certain people add you as their friends when really you aren't friends you are just two people who mutually know of each other. Here is an example of why I am curious about this today.  About eight months ago a girl I went to school with in Junior High added me as her friend.  I knew her to pass her in the hallway but we weren't in the same classes or anything so we weren't even friends back then.  But a really good friend of mine married her brother, and so this girl opens a Facebook account and sends me a message requesting I add her as one of my friends.  I am now trying to filter my friends so I don't add everyone that makes that request, but I try to be discreet about it. However, because of this girls connection to my friend I felt what harm could come of adding her to my Facebook friends.  So I added her.  I did this because I don't want to hurt peo...
